Bernardsville Sherman Hoffman Sanctuaries - New Jersey Audubon 908-766-5787 A beautiful preserve located at the headwaters of the Passaic River. Diverse habitat supports many resident species along with many migrants. April and May are stunning months as waves of colorful warblers stop over on their migration north. Facilities include a bookstore, marked trail system and many programs throughout the year. A dozen feeders just outside the bookstores window makes even the coldest of winter days interesting. Cape May - Area reccomendations - thanks to RW

  • Cape May County Zoo - “The African Savannah has 30 acres of plains type habitat where giraffes, zebra, and African antelopes roam freely. Walk out on a boardwalk and see them safely from a distance”. No fences in this area. Bring a long lens. More info from the Cape May Times.

Lyndhurst - Hackensack Meadowlands Environmental Center - Located in the meadowlands on the site of a former landfill. The park is situated in a tidal marsh area and provides several types of wetland habitat. You will be amazed at the diversity of wildlife just a few hundred feet from the NJ Turnpike and view of the New York City skyline. Several marked trails offer nature walks through a variety of habitat. A popular option is to start at the parking lot and walk around the marsh on a special walkway. Montclair - Montclair Hawk Watch - New Jersey Audubon Sept 1st - Nov 30th Watch migrating hawks (including Broadwings, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin, Kestrel, Bald Eagle, Osprey, Golden Eagle and more) drift overhead with the New York City skyline as a backdrop. Morristown - Frelinghuysen Arboretum - 127 acres of fields, gardens and woodlands. A great place to take pictures and relax located just minutes off of Route 287 in Morristown.
