Dear Tom and Bob,

 

I just returned (as you may both know) from a terrific trip in Africa -- mostly in Botswana and South Africa, to be specific. I took over two thousand photos, and my husband took over 800. I am only just going through them now and will eventually be printing some enlargements, but I wanted to take a moment to thank you all at BCC -- but special added thanks go to Paul C and Jeremy.

 

Paul provided a super one-on-one lesson for me, and based upon my work schedule, was willing to meet with me before the store's regular opening hours. As always, he was knowledgeable, made me laugh, and was patient with my questions. Then, in May, Paul led a great day-trip to the Bronx Zoo where I could "practice" what I'd learned. Results were great -- but even more than that -- his efforts and my follow up gave me more confidence as I planned for my vacation.

 

Then, more recently, Jeremy helped by advising how best to back-up my photos and then took on the job of transferring copies from my and my husband's camera cards to a huge flash drive I'd purchased at BCC. Due to some odd happenstance, the photos' numbers changed and the means to organize them became overwhelming if not impossible for me. Jeremy then took on the daunting task to organize them by day to enable me to review and enjoy my photos. He was really accommodating to my wishes. [HUGE THANK YOU!]

 

In addition, while away, both Paul C and Paul B quickly responded to my email from Botswana. It was great feeling connected to you all from so far away. Both Pauls are forever supportive and helpful.

 

Anyway -- know that I never take you all for granted. I constantly speak your praises. You are all a huge part of my love of photography. And --- to conclude -- I have referenced the wording on your wall to many: A photo isn't a photo until it's printed.

I'm not sure if you remember my husband and I (he's the vet), but I came in over the summer to buy him a video camera for his trip to Scotland. He's leaving on Friday, and he couldn't be happier with the camera. You really helped me to purchase a camera to suit his needs.

You were so helpful and patient. Then, I came in to buy a small camera just for carrying around, and you helped both of us at that time. It was so pleasurable, we wound up talking for quite some time. I just filled out the questionnaire, but I thought I should take a moment and let you know how much we enjoyed meeting you personally. Honestly, we wouldn't go anywhere else now for our photography needs. Actually, we're planning a trip to Africa, and a friend just recommended a great camera I should look at, so we'll be in to see you again soon.

Hello Paul

 

Allow me to extend my gratitude and appreciation for all the help and attention you gave to me when visiting your store recently. I'm the guy who bought the Canon Xsi and 2.8 lens for shooting Albertus Magnus football this fall. Your personal display of customer service was such a positive experience I have not stopped talking about it to friends and colleagues.

I would like to ask your opinion or guidance as to a couple of questions I have. First, I was wondering about photography lessons. Similar to golf lessons in that manner that I would prefer the one-to-one rather than take a photography 101 course. Second, would you prefer when I have questions/concerns that I visit the store or send email to you. Whichever you prefer is the route I will take.

Dear BCC Team,

 

I would love to join you but ... I'm back in the old world, already missing strollin' around in the city with my Leica and getting my films developed in your store, getting a call from Mel and picking up the pictures. There is nothing comparable like your store and especially your team. Here it doesn't really matter to anyone what they are selling. At best there's one person in a shop for more than a year who is able to answer a technical question about the equipement they are selling. I miss you all. Hopefully it will be an exciting event for you and for Leica.

Bought a camera in big box store as my local camera in Cliffside, Marvel, closed years ago. The book that is included is useless. I went to the internet and was so pleased with finding a real camera store still in Bergen County. So I brought all my problems to your Westwood store. John methodically "cured" all my problems and showed me how to prevent them in the future. I also bought a camera battery as the extra one I bought in PC died after 6 months use. I am so pleased with the service and knowledge that you have a new customer for life.

Patti and I have been coming in for last 28 years and it has truly been a pleasure. Whenever we are going to make a photographic purchase we go straight to Bergen County Camera. Hi,

 

I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to your Westwood store. I am always impressed by the level of service I get at this store and the responsiveness to my email inquiries. While I don't shop there for smaller items like memory cards or lens filters I do make all my major purchases with them. I recently bought two lenses for my Nikon DSLR and the level of expertise for those transactions was second to none. I love that I can walk into the store and talk to a salesman about a major purchase for an hour and receive expert opinions on the equipment. I have been a customer for two years now and see no reason why I wont be in 20 years.

I'm a pleased customer from 200 miles away that has done business with Bergen County Camera since 1995. I'm only there 1-2 times per year. My most recent purchase was a digital camera, with which I have had operating problems.

On each of several return trips, your business has tried its best in a friendly and professional manner to solve the problem. I'm very pleased to know that your efforts are so forthright in today's hectic world. I have only been able to reimburse you with a heartfelt thanks.

I'd call the store and talk to you in person if I thought you were in this early!

You've established an uncompromising level of personal service and customer satisfaction unique in that it's not a "slogan" hanging in the window but a way of life. This cannot have been a quick, easy or inexpensive business choice, but by focusing (sorry - couldn't think of another word) on this and not going for the "quick buck" you have created a business model that is the envy of most businesses.

Dear Tom,

I just wanted to drop a quick note to thank Bergen County Camera. Although I now live in NYC, I grew up in Hillsdale and my folks still live there. They left for a well-deserved, big trip out to Montana and Wyoming today, and yesterday, I decided I wanted to get them a new digital camera to memorialize their travels (Dad's often asking to borrow my camera) Unfortunately, I couldn't make it out to the suburbs in time to give them the gift personally, and, as their flight left early this morning, the wouldn't get it in time even if I sent it FedEx.

I called your store because 1) my family and I all have a thing about preferring to buy from the long-time local shops rather than from the big chains when possible and 2) I thought that, just perhaps, there was an outside chance that your staff would be able to deliver the gift for me before my parents left. Sure enough, your sales staff (I'm terrible with names--I don't remember who helped me, but it was two women) hooked me up. They guided me to the perfect camera for my folks, and one of your other employees agreed to swing by my parent's house after work yesterday, delivering the gift.

Mom and dad were thrilled and completely surprised!! The gift was a huge success. Please pass on my appreciation to those staff members (whose names I am embarrassed I don't remember). They made my day.

Dear Bergen County Camera Staff:

 

I have been a customer of Bergen County Camera for over 15 years. Now that I live in South Carolina, I continue to travel back to Westwood to purchase cameras and equipment from your store.

Why? Because recently I purchased a camera and brought it with me to Boston to photograph my niece's wedding. I had a problem with the camera and called your store. Your salesmen was knowledgeable (and patient) enough to give me sufficient information over the phone. Your outstanding service is the reason I travel back to New Jersey to buy new cameras and equipment. The service you and your capable staff provide cannot be found at a chain discount store and is "priceless" .

Tom, I have been an avid photographer for more than 35 years. I shoot 35 up to 4x5. It was only a few weeks ago I found out about your store. Why have I wasted so much of my time on trips to NY searching for the perfect photo shop. Your Staff was very friendly and very helpful. One of your salesman spent half an hour looking for a small inexpensive part, I can't imagine how he would have treated me If I were looking for a new system.
