Ocean City Rookery Workshop
Join award winning wildlife photographer Matt Malwitz in coastal New Jersey for a morning photographing a wading bird colony. Learn to compose creatively and to predict behaviors to capture exciting flight shots with expert guidance.
May: Birds are nesting and building up nests. Hatchlings present.
Early July: Young are beginning to leave the nest and explore the colony
Late July: Young have left nest and are interacting with adults
What's included: 4 hours of instruction

What We May See:
- Yellow-crowned Night Heron
- Black-crowned Night Heron
- White Ibis
- Glossy Ibis
- Great Egret
- Snowy Egret
- Little Blue Heron
- Tricolored Heron
What to bring:
Photography gear:
- Your camera and lens of choice. I recommend a 500mm lens or longer.
- Plenty of extra batteries and memory cards
- Support. Tripod or monopod.
Non-photography gear:
- Sun protection
- Insect repellent (flies and gnats)
*We cannot guarantee any particular bird. We will do everything we can to capture a variety of birds, but at the end of the day, these are wild animals. If a bird isn’t cooperating, we’ll move on to the next.
